October 7, 2018 – “Plans for the Near Future”

Hello, everyone!

The overarching theme of today matches those from the previous weeks: enumerating the folders from the George L. Stuart, Jr. Collection. While the folders of Boxes 34 through 41 were successfully labeled, there was some discussion among the staff regarding events and activities involving the archives near the end of the semester. In fact, one of those activities occurs tomorrow.

After retrieving Box 34 from its shelf and searching for new pencils (the ones I had been worn down to the point where the pencil sharpener cannot sharpen them), I resumed enumerating folders until Box 41. Unfortunately, I did not reach the end of the Senate Files Series like I had planned. In the meantime, Mr. Ogreten approached me and asked for my assistance.

Apparently, one of the classes that recently visited the archives had a group that was returning tomorrow. Mr. Ogreten asked if I could help monitor the students. I accepted his request and learned that they would be arriving near the start of my shift. This means I will probably not be working on the George L. Stuart, Jr. Collection at all tomorrow. Nevertheless, I still plan on helping.

As I resumed my duties, Ms. Rubin spoke with Mr. Benjamin about the plans for December. She asked if some of the OPS members (myself included) would be allowed to work more hours. Mr. Benjamin did not have a problem with the idea, so I was informed that I have a chance to work forty hours after Finals Week. I told Ms. Rubin that I would give the idea some thought. She told me if I did not take this opportunity, it would be available again around Spring Break 2019.

Certainly, whatever arranged plans during that time will be announced in this blog. Just as a reminder, the John C. Hitt Library will be closed on Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, the Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. Do not expect a blog post on those days. Again, any further changes will be announced accordingly.

I had finished Box 40 when I noticed there was still enough time to filter through another box. I hastly returned Box 40 and retrieved Box 41. Fortunately, there were not many folders in Box 41 and I managed to complete the Box in due time. After returning Box 41, I said farewell to the staff and ended my shift.

In review, all the folders in Boxes 34 through 41 of the George L. Stuart, Jr. Collection were enumerated, information regarding December’s schedule was announced, plans for tomorrow were adjusted. As such, there might not be any activity regarding the collection and any interactionswith the class scheduled to be at the archives will be recorded. Until then, enjoy the afternoon and stay safe! Bye!
