July 2, 2018 – “A Slight Setback”

Hello, everyone!

Hopefully, the weekend was kinder for those who happen to read this blog than my experience. I am not going to go into the details, but I will comment that my life is temporarily more difficult than last week and I am waiting patiently for the rectification of my current status. Nonetheless, my work at the archives continued today.

Since Mondays are the days my responsibility to clean the fifth floor study hall, this task was prioritized as my first objective of the day. While the desks did need cleaning, the overall condition was not nearly as horrendous as last week’s. By using the Lysol wipes, the majority of stains and markings were cleaned off. Thankfully, Kryslynn helped expedite the process. In the end, the whole cleaning process was contained within the first hour.

With my cleaning responsibilities finished, I resumed my progress with the George L. Stuart Collection. I began with finishing Box 14 by relabeling approximately four smaller folders then moved on to Box 15. I had just finished relabeling about an eighth of the folders for the box when I noticed something wrong. The series indicator on the label is supposed to read “I. Senate Files,” but I wrote it as “I. Senate.” This meant I had to start back to Box 14 and correct the mistakes I had made. A slight setback, but nothing too crippling to the process.

After resuming from where I been before I had to make those corrections, the fortune of finding thicker folders to place in the box made the goal of reaching Box 16 a reality. Yet, I did this myself. Kae is no longer at the archives and Courtney had been helping me on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I had no assistance. This did dissuade me from work and the tedious nature of the process has become somewhat therapeutic.

Yet, as 2:00 PM approached, the day’s work came to a close as I placed four new folders in Box 16. After my farewells to the staff and cleaned my work area, I left for the day. Despite the setbacks experienced, the majority of the “F” Senate Files had now been housed. Until tomorrow when this objective will be completed, enjoy the rest of the evening and stay safe! Bye!
