September 5, 2017 – “More Football”

Hello, everyone!

I hope you enjoyed the Labor Day weekend, but it is time to get back into the swing of things. Before we begin, it should be noted it is hurricane season at this time of the year and, sure enough, there is Hurricane Irma whose trajectory seems to be pointing to Florida and is currently a Category 5 Hurricane. We will see if Irma make an impact this weekend and to those of you living in southeast Florida, make sure you make preparations and have all you need just in case the storm’s devastation is more than expected. Please stay safe! In regards to the blog, I will update it on whether UCF will be closed following the storm as well as the status of the blog. Now with current events outside my immediate peripheral vision addressed, here is the activities of today.

I checked in with Ms. Rubin and was given a hopeful projection that perhaps I will be done with the O’Shaughnessy Collection at the end of next week. While that would be great, my own personal estimation is that it will maybe the next two to three weeks due to what still needs to be done. I was also reminded to e-mail John Setter as well as Professor French for respective reasons in regards to my internship. I will have it done soon. After this, I resumed my tasks.

I was still reviewing VHS cassettes today with the first being another black and white version of the UCF vs. Morehouse College game from November 17, 1979. This time it had generic, royalty free background music one would expect in a football highlight reel. The game was followed the UCF vs. Emory & Henry College game from November 3, 1979. I have seen it three times now and it is still sad to watch as the Knights lost 14-28 (to be fair, they fought back in the closing of the fourth quarter). But, thankfully, the next tapes were a later era.

The first was a highlight reel from 1993 Football Season. The Knights played a good season and, though they were defeated in the Division I-AA First Round Playoff Game, they were confident that they would eventually reach Division I-A. This confidence transferred over into the next tap, which was the Sunshine Network coverage of UCF game against the Maine Black Bears on September 3, 1994. I watched the entire game, ads and all. The Knights dominated the Black Bears in the first half of the game, but Black Bears fought hard in the second half, but that first half domination helped secure the win for the Knights with a 28-6 victory. Unfortunately, after three hours, there was still footage left on the tape, so I will have see how deep the rabbit hole is on Thursday.

Well, that is all what happened today. I just watched more football and my time was spent doing that. Nothing more, nothing less. I will post again on Thursday, so until then stay safe and have a wonderful day! Bye!
